THE new and improved Moor Play Area is officially under construction.

The Friends of the Moor (FOTM) announced last week that the layout of the new play area had been agreed after discussion and consultations with Cheshire East Council and KOMPAN, the play equipment providers.

Work began on the site yesterday (Monday) and will take approximately three weeks to complete, during which time the play area will be closed.

Robert Newton, treasurer of Friends of the Moor, said: “This is an exciting project and will make a significant improvement to the play area with the type of equipment chosen to extend the age range of users.

“There will be more equipment in the toddler area and a state of the art climbing frame, large slide and additional swings in the main play area, together with other equipment designed to be both challenging and provide for imaginative play.”

Funding for the new equipment has been obtained from a number of sources, including WREN, a not-for-profit business which provides grants for community projects from the Landfill Communities Funds, Cheshire East Council, who own and maintain the Moor, and Knutsford Town Council.

Funds were also raised by committee members and supporters of the Friends of the Moor.

As well as the installation of new play area equipment, improvements will also be made to seating and fencing, with a hard standing area for prams and buggies.

An official opening date will be arranged once the works have been completed.
