GOLFERS have clubbed together to achieve a record amount for a Millington-based charity.

The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust held its annual golf day at the Mere on May 22 and managed to raise an incredible £23,000 – £6,000 more than the day raised in 2013.

The event was made up of 22 teams, who had a day of golfing at the prestigious club, followed by a prize-giving dinner in the evening hosted by comedian Stan Boardman.

Stan entertained the golfers in his inimitable style with the charity also holding one of its trademark raffles with a difference which alone raised more than £800.

Golfers taking part in the ‘check your balls’ raffle were encouraged to buy a £20 box of balls, which had been sponsored by Cargill, one of which contained a specially marked ball.

The owner of that lucky pack won a two-night stay for two at the de Savary family’s Cotswold retreat Old Swan & Minster Mill.

Another lucky winner left with tickets for him and his team to watch the recording of CAFT patron, Jason Manford’s, new sport show ‘A Question of Sport; Super Saturday’ at MediaCity.

The grand finale of the evening was the prize-giving which saw the PFA’s team scooping the first prize, each team member walking away with a luxury hamper sponsored by Ettinger.

Second place went to James Nocker Team A, and BlueMoon Telecom came a close third.

Pippa Watton, event organiser at CAFT, said: “We’ve been blown away by the total raised at this year’s Golf Day, and must thank all of the golfers for their amazing generosity.

“We must also thank BACTA who provided essential sponsorship which massively boosted the total. It was a fantastic day, everyone had a great time both on the course and afterwards at the Dinner.

“Mere were as fabulous as ever, and we must say a huge thank you to the volunteers from Lloyds Banking Group who were brilliant. The money raised will help us to provide life-changing holidays for countless terminally ill, disabled and disadvantaged children this year. A fantastic achievement for all concerned.”
