POLICE are advising motorists to expect congestion on the M6 near Holmes Chapel,  following an earlier accident.

At 6.32am, a one vehicle collision occurred on the M6 Northbound carriageway, near to Junction 18.

A white van left the carriageway, coming to rest in the ditch.  The sole occupant, a man, has been taken to North Staffordshire hospital by ambulance.

One lane has been closed on the Northbound carriageway near to the scene, to facilitate the work of emergency services. There is significant congestion in the area.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision, and are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident itself, or who may have seen the white van prior to the incident occurring.
