KNUTSFORD’S Community Hero for 2014 is one step closer after the five finalists were announced this week.

In February the Guardian teamed up once again with Equilibrium Asset Management to find Knutsford’s Community Hero for 2014.

We asked the town to send in their nominations and we can now reveal the five people who have made our shortlist.

They are: Dave Thompson, Marie Fox, David Jones, Robert Newton and Debbie Jamieson.

Colin Lawson, managing partner of Equilibrium on the worthy finalists, said: “I’m really impressed with the entries once again this year, they have all demonstrated a lovely strong community spirit.

“The five finalists have all shown generosity towards the town and its residents by being involved in planning sports, schools activities and raising money needed for various groups which make Knutsford a great place to live.

“From, repair work, litter picks to helping at events, these people have given their time and effort to give Knutsford that fantastic community spirit making them all worthy finalists.”

Carla Flynn, editor of the Knutsford Guardian, added: “These five finalists have already shown they are more than capable of being our Community Hero for 2014. Like Colin I am really impressed with what they have been doing in Knutsford – in their own community.”

The winner will be decided by a judging panel comprising of former Community Hero winners Kane Gunter and Val Bryant, as well as Colin and Carla. Thanks to our partner, Equilibrium Asset Management, we have a brilliant prize on offer.

The winner of our Community Hero 2014 will receive £500 and a further £500 to donate to a charity of their choice.

There is also £100 up for grabs for the person who nominates the eventual winner.
