RED Cross supporter Judith Ward is to employ her best haggling skills over the next few weeks in a bid to help her team win a Bargain Hunt-style fundraiser.

Judith is a member of a five-strong team taking part in Hunt a Red Cross Bargain, a fun competition which is raising money for the Red Cross.

Judith is one of the Haslington Red Cross fundraisers who are competing against teams from the admin department and the independent living team at Knutsford Red Cross.

From now until May 26 the three teams will be hoping to hunt down some top bargains at car boot sales and antique centres using £100 which each team has been given to buy three items and a bonus item.

The lots will then go under the hammer at Marshalls auction house in Knutsford on June 3, with the proceeds going to the Red Cross.

The format of the event is similar to that of the popular BBC 1 show Bargain Hunt, in which teams of contestants are challenged to track down the best bargains at an antiques fair and then sell them at an auction for a profit.

Judith is the Red Cross service co-ordinator for rural communities in Cheshire, and is organising the fun competition.

“It’s going to be a challenge, but we’re confident that we will make a profit,” said Judith.

“We will be using our best haggling and bartering techniques, and we’re hoping to find a Faberge egg for 50 pence!”

Judith’s team-mates are her brother Anthony and mother Gladys and husband and wife Anthony and Margaret Peake.

The Independent Living team is made up of Wendy Smith, John Morris and Beverley Dow, and the admin department team members are Carol Smith, Lyndsey Smith, Jean McDermott, Janet Spruce and David Plaskett.

The £300 which has been donated for the fundraiser has been given by one of the team members specifically for the event, and as well as raising as much as possible the Red Cross teams will be competing for a special prize to be awarded to the team making the most profit.
