A SIX-week market planned for this Christmas on the Little Heath has been postponed until next year.

Organisers Living World Events announced yesterday that, following public consultation and engagement, a decision has been made to delay the launch of the Mistletoe Market until Christmas 2015.

The revised proposals will no longer include the Little Heath as the location for the market and will also address the duration of the market and number of chalets, which will be significantly less than the original 100.

Jemma Gilmartin, managing director of Living World Events, said: “We had an even greater response to the plans that we had anticipated and greatly appreciate those who took the time to listen to the details and make suggestions on how they could be improved.

“We are extremely grateful to both retailers and many Knutsford residents, whose passion for the town has shaped the 2015 mistletoe market with many great suggestions.”

The original Mistletoe Markets plans would have seen a six-week market staged on the Heath over the 2014 Christmas period.

The proposals became public in March and since then have subject to debate, with retailers, residents and town councillors voicing concerns about the market’s impact on the town.

Following yesterday’s announcement, Living World Events stated it remains dedicated to 'creating an event that will result in a significant increase in footfall and trade for town businesses', as well as being an event Knutsfordians can ‘enjoy and be proud of’.

Living World Events also added that the postponement will allow more time for them to work with retailers, businesses, residents and stakeholders ‘to maximise both community involvement and benefit’.

Details of the new proposals will be announced closer to the time.
