WHO will be crowned Queen or King of Knutsford’s High Streets?

The town’s retailers and businesses are busy creating May Day themed window displays – each with a crown at its heart.

It is all for a competition organised by the Knutsford Heritage Centre, as part of its Crowning Glory celebration of the town’s 150th Royal May Day.

“We have collected some 40 crowns from past May Queens, which will be on display in the windows of King Street, Princess Street and Minshull Street businesses,” said volunteer Val Bryant.

“The response has been brilliant, with most of the town centre businesses taking part. The town will look better than ever for this very special Royal May Day.”

The displays were unveiled today and will be on show until Saturday May 10. Judges will choose the winning display on May Day, Saturday May 3, and the business judged to have displayed the crown to best advantage will be crowned Queen or King of Knutsford’s High Streets.

“We have commissioned a special crown and look forward to arranging the crowning ceremony with the winner,” added Val.

The centre is running a Crowning Glory competition for youngsters that will run in conjunction with the displays – entry forms and full details will be available from the heritage centre from April 27.

The Knutsford's Crowning Glory exhibition continues at the heritage centre until Sunday June 29. Entry is free, but donations towards the upkeep of the centre, a charity, will be gratefully received.

The King Street centre is open Tuesday to Saturday 11am to 4pm, Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays 2pm to 5pm. The centre is closed on Monday.
