Knutsford Scouts get a taste of Japan ahead of Jamboree trip
SCOUTS from Knutsford District who will be experiencing the trip of a lifetime at the World Jamboree in Japan in 2015 have had a chance to sample a little of the country’s culture.
Max Davies and Catherine Eadie joined their fellow Scouts who make up the Cheshire contingent for a team building day in Liverpool which included a visit to the World Museum to see Japanese artefacts and a special cookery lesson.
The youngsters dropped in at Yo Sushi in Liverpool One for a lesson in sushi making from head chef Peter Fletcher.
On the menu were such delights as cucumber maki, chicken iso and a salmon skin hand roll.
`It was a great experience to try something new and also to get to know our contingent members a little better. Every activity now just builds up the excitement more and more for Japan,” said Catherine.
While in Japan they will experience the Jamboree itself, spend a few days living with a Japanese family and attend the Peace Memorial Ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima at the end of World War Two.
The group has already come together for a day at the county’s Forest Camp involving rock climbing, a vertical obstacle course and problem solving exercises.
Over the next 12 months the scouts will be involved in more activities and a lot of fundraising before they board the plane for the Jamboree.
The full contingent from Knutsford includes Harry Sanger, Ed Lunnon and Grace Haselden as well as Catherine and Max – all from the Kite Explorer Unit.
