MAY Day is often associated with screams of delight – and soon with fright it would seem.

Guys Barbershop, on Canute Square, will be stepping back in time to celebrate this year’s festival, adopting a Sweeney Todd theme for the day.

Staff will be suited and booted in villainous Victorian costume and clients will be in for a whole host of hair-raising treats.

A plenitude of prizes are to be had, including free traditional wet shaves, haircuts and grooming products, and complimentary beer from Tatton Brewery and Deli Boys pork pies will be offered with every haircut.

Owner Dan Belcher a.k.a. Sweeney said: “It’s about having fun and being involved with Knutsford’s celebrations - we are a big part of history us barbers and I believe Sweeney Todd’s story is in keeping with this year’s May Day.

“Guys Barbershop has been in the town for 36 years and we believe, as a fabric of the town, we should put some effort in. A lot of local people get dressed up so why shouldn’t we.

“We all take pride here at Guys, in being barbers, and this just fits the bill.”
