PUPILS of Mobberley Primary School are hoping to put a stop to dog-fouling by urging owners to scoop the poop.

Knutsford PCSO Sophie Emmerson enlisted the school’s help after becoming aware of an increasing dog-fouling problem in the Mobberley and Great Warford area.

Following the success of a recent parking initiative, Sophie launched a poster competition in a bid to tackle the growing problem.

“A similar idea had been successful in relation to parking so I adapted the idea to address dog fouling as I thought this would be a great way to get the kids and school involved in local issues,” she said.

“The school were pro and the kids were excited about getting involved. They were already aware of the problem and were keen to help the local council and police tackle the issue.”

With the help of head Carol Owen and parish council clerk Sarah Sherwood, Sophie picked six lucky winners, one from each class, on March 18.

“We went for bright and colourful posters with a clear message to get people’s attention,” said Sarah.

“Essentially this competition was about getting people to recognise there is an issue with dog fouling and hopefully a bright coloured poster will raise awareness and resolve the problem.”

The winners, from Class One to Six, were Ella O’Donoghue, Marley Hevingham, Euan McLachlan, Amy O’Donoghue, Hope Taylor, Joseph Grassby.

Each received book tokens as a prize and their winning posters will be placed around the Mobberley and Great Warford area.
