PLANNING consent has been granted for a new 45,000sq ft Sainsbury’s foodstore in Holmes Chapel.

The new store, which will be located on the former Fisons site on London Road, will provide 260 car parking spaces, a recycling centre and petrol filling station – creating up to 175 new full and part-time jobs.

Simon Isherwood, of investment and development company Bluemantle Ltd, said: “We are delighted to have secured planning for this new store, which is the result of months of consultations with the local community and working closely with the council.

"This new foodstore will have a significantly beneficial impact on the local area as it will enable residents to do their weekly food shop in Holmes Chapel, preventing ‘leakage’ to neighbouring towns.”

“In 2012, we secured planning for 230 new homes on the adjoining site which is currently being developed out by Bellway Homes and Bloor Homes. The development of a new foodstore will provide a much needed facility for Holmes Chapel’s growing population.”

Manchester based HOW Planning acted as planning consultants for the application.
