Biggest turnout yet for High Legh 10k
8:00pm Friday 21st March 2014 in News
MORE runners than ever competed in this year’s High Legh 10k –with a record 600 entries.
The event, which was organised by Lymm Runners and High Legh Community Association, took place on Sunday March 9.
There was a mix of fun runners as well as club athletes representing 42 clubs from across Cheshire and as far afield as Yorkshire, Somerset and Cambridgeshire.
Race Director Chris Lees said: “We have an amazing amount of support for this event from the High Legh community, primary school, sponsors and the athletes who turn out year after year.”
A Knutsfordian took first place on the day. Matthew Rushbrook, representing Knutsford Tri Club, finished in 33.27 and the fastest female runner was Sharon Johnstone, representing Wilmslow Running Club, who finished in 38:20.
New to this year was a Club Trophy. Knutsford Tri Club won both the men’s and women’s prize, second were Lymm Runners for both categories, and Warrington Road Runners came third in the men’s team with Macclesfield Harriers third in the women’s teams.
Chris added: “There were some amazing performances including a new course record from Matthew, many new Personal Bests (PB’s) and some inspiring stories of new runners reaching 10k for the first time. It’s what makes this race particularly special.”
The number of entries for the race has doubled from 300 to 600 in the three years since Lymm Runners has been involved with organising the race, which is now in its seventh year.
All runners received a race-branded goody bag which included a T-shirt, and refreshments on the day were provided by the High Legh Primary School PTA.
