FOR new mums, fitting exercise into an already busy schedule can seem like an impossible task – but the perfect solution has landed in Knutsford.

Slingsalsa, created by Northwich mum Jody Yates, combines motherhood with dance –mums can dance away the calories whilst wearing their baby in a sling.

Jody has seen her business take off since launching in Northwich last month and now the former professional dancer if branching out in neighbouring Knutsford.

“I've had lots of great feedback about how the classes are enabling mums to exercise and feel great whilst involving their baby, and I've had some ladies book in recently who said they were passed the details of Slingsalsa by their health visitor, so it feels like the classes are doing a lot of good,” said the 30-year-old.

“As a brand-new, tiny start-up I haven't been able to do lots of advertising, so the fact that the word is spreading is just brilliant.”
Jody, who is originally from Cambridge, first came up with the idea for Slingsalsa after the birth of her son Theo two years ago.

“My husband works shifts and I wanted to get back into dance and exercise, but couldn't find anything that allowed me to involve Theo when Andy isn't at home,” Jody said.

“That, coupled with my experience of dancing and teaching dance, was where the idea started.”

Slingsalsa is a whole-body 30-minute workout, concentrating on posture, re-strengthening core muscles and arm and leg toning.

Jody added: “The babies love it too. They fall asleep easily, content with being so close to mum, and with the movement. Either that or they shake the rattles I give them along to the beat. Either way, their response is always positive, and it's a joy to see them so snug and happy.”

Mid-Cheshire Sling Library hire out the slings and an expert is on hand to provide advice to mums on safe baby wearing.

The weekly class will launch at Knutsford Methodist Church on Thursday March 6 at 10.30am.
