BUDDING Einsteins should prepare to be Amazed by Science after Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre teamed up with Marketing Cheshire to launch a new festival.

The inaugural pan-Cheshire Science Festival, Amazed by Science, aims to capture children’s imaginations throughout the May half term, from May 24 to June 1.

Siemens is the headline sponsor, while science and technology companies including Urenco, National Nuclear Laboratories, Waters Corporation, Sellafield, Peel Energy, C-Tech, EA Technology and the Cheshire and Warrington Enterprise Partnership will also take part.

Teresa Anderson, director of Jodrell Bank said: “The festival will promote and celebrate science, technology and engineering throughout Cheshire.

“We aim to increase interest and engagement in science for the general public and to increase its relevance to our everyday lives.

“We hope that this will inspire young people to pursue science at school and to consider a career in this field.

“Cheshire is one of the UK’s foremost scientific areas with a rich heritage of past achievements, as well as a huge amount of science-based business and world leading research. The Festival is a wonderful way to showcase this.”

Venues include Jodrell Bank, Daresbury Science Park, Delamere Forest, Chester Zoo, Macclesfield Silk Museum, Chester Cathedral, Reaseheath Agricultural College, Tatton Park and the Hack Green Nuclear Bunker.

Highlights will include chances to meet astronomers, witness family science shows and attend a prestigious Lovell Lecture.

Finbarr Dowling, managing director at Siemens, added: “Siemens is delighted to be associated with the inaugural pan-Cheshire Science Festival. Siemens has been operational in Cheshire since 1971."
