A HIGH Legh student is ‘delighted’ after being offered a coveted place at Cambridge University.

Hannah Loftus, a pupil at Withington Girls’ School, has received a conditional offer from Newnham College to study Human, Social and Political Sciences (HSPS).

She is currently studying A-Levels in Politics, Psychology and Geography.  Her interest in the HSPS course – particularly Politics – was sparked during a recent World Challenge volunteering trip in India.

“I was shocked to find I had been accepted but I am delighted.  The course looks amazing and is the only one in the country that offers this variety of options,” she said.

Hannah is Withington’s netball team captain, helps run the school’s Current Affairs Club and is a volunteer at Timperley Lacrosse Club helping younger children to play sport.

Withington Girl’s School Headteacher Sue Marks said: “Competition for places at Oxford and Cambridge has always been intense, and in recent years it has become increasingly international.

“We are delighted for our girls’ success in competition with some of the world’s best students.”
