FOUR fire engines were called to tackle a blaze at a barn in Holmes Chapel, believed to have been caused by spontaneous combustion.

Firefighters were called at 6.30am to deal with a fire in a building at Fields Farm on Forty Acre Lane. When they arrived crews found a fire involving straw, plastic sheeting and tyres in a building that measures 40metres by 20metres.

Firefighters used main jets to fight the fire and at the height of the blaze there was four fire engines at the scene. This was later reduced to three.
