COMMITTED St Luke’s Hospice supporter, Rod Wainwright is showing his dedication to the cause as he signs up for a second time to the charity’s Fire Walk and Glass Walk on March 29.

The retired father of three from Holmes Chapel completed the Fire Walk in October 2013 and has now registered for the Glass Walk taking place at LA Fitness in Northwich.

Speaking about last year’s Fire Walk, Rod said: “It was the biggest adrenaline rush I have had for a very long time.

“Having been a tree surgeon for more than 40 years, I found myself in some tricky situations but walking over the scorching embers definitely topped it.”

Rod was just one of 48 people who took part in the Fire Walk which raised more than £9,000 for the Winsford-based hospice.

“St Luke’s Hospice is a place very dear to both myself and my family,” Rod added.

“I am incredibly proud to be raising money again for this incredible case “I have definitely got the bug now, fire first and glass next, who knows what will follow, perhaps lying on a bed of nails.”

There is still time to register as St Luke’s is urging supporters from across Cheshire to put a brave foot forward and register for the charity’s blazing Fire Walk or razor-sharp Glass Walk.

To raise the much needed vital funds that contribute to the hefty £7,500-a-day required to keep the hospice open, St Luke’s is looking for daring participants in search of a new challenge.

You will be asked to complete a two hour motivational training session before walking 15ft, over red-hot wood embers, reaching a scorching 800°F or enduring shards of glass barefoot.

The challenge takes place on Saturday, March 29, at LA Fitness in Northwich, and training and encouragement is provided by Time4Change Fire Walk Transformations, who have over 20 years’ experience.

The event will be raising money for the hospice and supporting their invaluable work in caring for people from Mid and South Cheshire suffering from cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

Clare Dale, St Luke’s Events fundraiser, added: “The Fire Walk and Glass Walk is a great way for fundraisers to test their devotion and willpower in aid of a fantastic cause.

“We are encouraging people from around the area to sign up and brave the burning embers in exchange for sponsorship from friends, family and work colleagues.

“The event is sure to be an unforgettable one and we would welcome all your friends and family to come along to support you and make a night of it, with entertainment, hot food and drinks available.”

Signing up to the St Luke’s Cheshire Hospice Fire Walk costs £25 or £50 for the Glass Walk. All those taking part must raise additional sponsorship of at least £125.
