A KNUTSFORD community group and two of its members have been honoured by a housing association.

More than 200 Great Places residents attended a glittering ‘Hollywood-style’ award ceremony at Gorton Monastery this week to celebrate their inspirational achievements in local communities across the North West and Yorkshire.

The inaugural Community Stars Awards was a chance for Great Places to thank the residents who show compassion, selflessness and courage on a daily basis.

Knutsford’s Longridge-based Community Spirit Group, a dedicated residents’ group, took home the coveted Community/Resident Group award.

Pat McAndrew, a member of the group, won the Young Resident Award with fellow member Samantha Pownall being given a Special Recognition award.

Pat said: “It's pretty cool, I'm buzzing and shocked. It’s such a beautiful venue.”

Matthew Harrison, chief executive of Great Places, said: “We had over 100 nominations for these awards which speaks volumes about the number of dedicated and inspirational residents we have in our communities.

"I am proud to be part of an organisation that serves these people.”
