BROWNIES blasted off their 100th year of guiding with a Big Brownie Birthday bash on January 18.

Children from 1st Mobberley Brownies, 2nd Goostrey Brownies, 5th and 6th Knutsford Brownies and 2nd Cross Town Brownies joined hundreds of other Cheshire East Brownies at Macclesfield Leisure Centre on Saturday.

The Brownies were treated to a spectacle of surprises, from jugglers, acrobats, and trapeze artists to a steel band, silks artist and a light show.

Jo Nixon, leader at 6th Knutsford Brownies, said: “What a fantastic start to the celebrations, we were so pleased we were there.

“A thousand Brownies can certainly make serious noise – and they had such fun doing it. The acts were brilliant and it was all very impressive.”

The Brownies were joined by the Mayor of Cheshire East, Councillor Dorothy Flude, and the Deputy Mayor of Macclesfield, Councillor Janet Jackson.

They were joined by another special guest, Edna Robertshaw, a Vice-President of Girlguiding Cheshire Border. Edna, who will be 99 years old later this year, was herself a Brownie in Congleton in the 1920s and is still a member of Congleton Trefoil Guild.
