A RAIL tour to the home of poet Robbie Burns has been announced by a mid Cheshire group.

The Mid Cheshire Rail Users Association (MCRUA) has organised The Robbie Burns Express to Ayrshire as their May Diesel Railtour.

This will run on May 3 and will pick up at most stations on the mid Cheshire line, including Cuddington, Greenbank, Northwich, Plumley, Knutsford and Mobberley.

The tour will head up to Scotland, turn left at Gretna Green and head for Dumfries, Kilmarnock and the seaside town of Ayr where tourists can visit the Burns National Heritage Park and Museum.

John Hulme, vice chairman of MCRUA, said: “This is a new destination for MCRUA railtours and for those living in Mid Cheshire and provides a unique opportunity to have a day out in Burns Country from their local railway station.

“I am sure there will be a lot of passengers raising their glass to poet Robbie Burns, in true mid Cheshire style, as they head to Burns Country through the many miles of unspoilt scenery.”
