KNUTSFORD farmers looking to find out more about Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reform and how it will affect their businesses are being invited to a series of drop in clinics being held in the county in February.

Chartered surveyors Berrys is holding free CAP Reform drop in clinics at its Northwich office at Brunel Court, Rudheath Way, CW9 7LP on the first three Wednesdays of February: February 5, 12 and 19, from 1pm to 5.30pm.

Andrew Sellick, Berrys’ CAP reform adviser at the Northwich office, said: “Farmers are most welcome to call in on those afternoons and discuss any queries they may have.

“Although the new CAP regime doesn’t come in until 2015 the anticipated rules are likely to affect farming decisions being made in 2014, particularly because of the compulsory Greening element.

“Greening will make up 30 per cent of the Basic Payment money and will contain rules relating to crop diversification, ecological focus areas and permanent pasture. “The outlined rules appear to contain relatively complex criteria and exemptions so it is important to consider these well in advance of the introduction of the new scheme as the penalties for not meeting greening are likely to be severe.”
