THE Rotary Club of Holmes Chapel invited a special guest to speak about the club’s ongoing ‘End Polio Now’ campaign on Wednesday 18 – National Immunisation Day in India.
Rotarian Suzannah Garton, daughter of Rotarian Richard Garton, gave a talk about her recent trip to India where she observed the work of fellow Rotarians who are working hard to eradicate polio globally.
Polio is an endemic in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria and if no more cases occur before January 2014, India can be declared polio free.
Rotary International is dedicated to vaccinating all children under a certain age in countries where polio is still present.
The Holmes Chapel Rotary Club are doing their bit for the international cause and raised a total of £354 at a recent wine tasting event, with all proceeds donated to the End Polio Now charity.
