There’s no show without punch – and there was certainly the case at a recent charity event held at the Mere Golf and Resort Spa.

A cheering crowd gathered at the resort on November 30 for a charity boxing match organised by Cheshire White Collar Boxing.

All proceeds from the event went to a specialist foundation trust dedicated to the health of premature babies – The Kitty.

The gala evening was hosted by ex-professional British Central Area Light-Heavyweight Boxing Champion Glenn Williams, who has first-hand experience of the skill and care of Neonatal staff, when his daughter, Poppy, was born four months premature with little chance of survival.

However, thanks to the expertise of the Neonatal staff, she is now thriving.
Glenn, director of Cheshire Fitness Personal Training, based out of the Cheshire Health Club and Spa, Mobberley, saw the event raise over £9,000 for the Kitty, this in addition to over £2,500 raised earlier this year through a charity bootcamp put on by Cheshire Fitness.

The Cheshire White Collar Boxing night consisted of 16 boxers from traditional ‘white collar’ professions, including a city banker, local entrepreneur and a North West DJ Lee Crank. All fighters had been trained by Glenn over a two month period leading up to the night.

Fighter of the night was adjudged to be DJ Lee Crank. Lee, who was fighting in memory of his recently deceased father-in-law, was actually knocked down in the first round, however, this only seemed to make him all the stronger and he picked himself up to knock down his opponent in the third to bring a referee in to bring the fight to an early end.

Cheshire White Collar Boxing is now recruiting for the next event at the Mere in April 2014. If you are interested in fighting, whilst supporting a charity, then contact Glenn on 07886432658 or glenn@cheshirefitness.co.uk.
