TWO Knutsford primary schools competed against schools from across the North West in a maths competition in Knutsford last week.
Year 5 and 6 pupils from Manor Park and Bexton Primary Schools had their skills put to the test and battled it out with more than 30 schools from Cheshire and Merseyside.
The competition, organised by Accelerate Learning Centres, aimed to challenge and stretch pupils who are gifted in Mathematics, as well as encouraging teamwork and problem solving skills.
Each of the Accelerate Learning Centres in Cheshire and Merseyside hosted a day-long event in which teams of four pupils from local primary schools tested their skills and knowledge in a variety of puzzles and problems.
The competition was brought to Knutsford on Friday November 29, when the Knutsford tuition centre, on Canute Place, hosted a heat.
Event organiser Andrew Rossall said: “It was fantastic seeing some of the brightest young mathematicians from our local schools being put to the test. Every pupil worked really hard, and achieved a lot, but most importantly came away smiling.
Bexton Primary School did particularly well in their event, coming second overall and narrowly missing out on a place in the final.
“We’ve had overwhelmingly positive feedback so far, and I’m really looking forward to seeing the winning teams return for the final in January.”
Accelerate Learning are planning on making the competition an annual event. Contact Andrew Rossall on arossall@alcentres.co.uk for information on next year’s event.
