School safety duo praised as new parking action brings great results
TWO young safety officers at Goostrey School have decided to take direct action about thoughtless parking.
Ruby Thirlwell and Alex Davies, both from year six, have produced a leaflet, which is headlined ‘Show You Care – Park Elsewhere’, to address the issue of cars being parked on the zigzag zone and the surrounding area outside the school.
The leaflet, which explains that children could get knocked over if they have to cross the road by a parked car, has been distributed to parents and other visitors to the school.
The issue has been a problem for the school, but other schools in Knutsford – such as Bexton Primary and Egerton – have also experienced issues with vehicles parking outside the school gates.
Head teacher Lyndsey Atkins said: “Fortunately we do not a have a major problem with parking at Goostrey School because the Crown Inn very kindly allows parents to use its car park when dropping off and picking up children at the beginning and the end of the day.
“However, some people had started parking on the zigzags outside the junior school gates, and so our safety officers Ruby and Alex decided to ask people very politely not to do it and, I must say, so far it appears to be working.
“The role of the safety officers is to look at all aspects of well-being for the children and, indeed, adults, and to suggest any ways in which we can make things better.
“Ruby and Alex are doing a great job.”
