Two women taken to hospital after M6 crash at junction 19
TWO women have been taken to hospital, one with serious injuries, after a crash on the M6 this morning, Thursday.
Drivers using the M6 through Cheshire are being advised that the southbound carriageway of the motorway remains partially closed following the collision.
Police were called at 8.20am on Thursday, October 24 to a report of a red Mini on its roof.
The incident, just south of Knutsford Services led to the full closure of the southbound carriageway from junction 19.
A brief closure of the northbound carriageway was also required to allow the air ambulance to land but this was re-opened at 9.30am.
The two women were taken to North Staffordshire Hospital. The driver is believed to have minor injuries and the passenger, serious injuries.
Cheshire Police is now conducting an incident investigation at the scene and while officers have allowed lane three of the motorway to re-open to traffic the investigation is likely to last throughout the morning and heavy congestion is likely along the southbound carriageway for several hours.
Highways Agency Traffic Officers from the outstation at Knutsford have been at the scene helping to manage traffic.
Traffic stuck behind the incident was released past the scene using lane three of the carriageway before it re-opened to all traffic.
Some drivers were also directed to escape the motorway using the A5033 Northwich Road via Knutsford Services.
A diversion from junction 19 was also operated with drivers following the ′solid black circle′ symbol and using the southbound A556, A530, then through Middlewich and eastbound A54 to rejoin the motorway at junction 18.
