Knutsford farmer nets £250,000 with a 337,000-1 shot in the Super 6
A KNUTSFORD man met famous ex-footballers after netting £250,000 in a soccer predictions contest.
Farmer Ed Houghton’s 337,836 to 1 shot in SkyBet’s Super 6 competition paid off just days before he was finalising his move to a new smallholding in Lymm.
The Burnley fan’s windfall has allowed him to reduce his new mortgage and treat wife, Lucy and children, Beth and Oliver, on a cruise to the Caribbean.
“I’m not a religious man, but it did make me feel like something was looking after me,” said Ed, who was the only one of 505,731 entrants to correctly predict six results across the three divisions of the Football League and the Premier League.
The 43-year-old entered the contest because his beloved Clarets were one of the teams to feature in the predictions for October 5.
He visited the Gillette Soccer Saturday team in London on Saturday, meeting Jeff Stelling and football legends Matt Le Tissier, Paul Merson, Charlie Nicholas and Phil Thompson.
“They were a lovely bunch,” Ed said.
“It was really nice to go around the studios and see how everything is done.
“When you watch the show you don’t realise that the presenters are there during the week, busy preparing the show.
“It was fantastic day and the win has still not fully sunk in. It’s come at exactly the right time, and has certainly made life a little bit easier.”
On Saturday Super 6 players will have a chance to win a £1 million jackpot for only the second time.
