Vaughan and Bumble take on Mere club for charity
A KNUTSFORD golf resort’s flagship charity event has raised almost £10,000 for good causes.
Celebrity golfers lined up this month to compete in the charity golfing event at The Mere Golf Resort and Spa to raise money for some of the north west’s most notable charities.
Cricketing legends, Michael Vaughan and David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd led the teams at The Sportsman’s Golf Classic to raise just under £10,000 for both The Christie Hospital and The Harold Riley Foundation.
The day was a roaring success and received excellent feedback from all attendees and the Mere has now committed to repeat the event next year, as one of the golfing highlights of 2013 for the resort.
Joe Gates, director of golf at the Mere, said: “The whole team worked hard to ensure all the different components of this golfing hospitality event came together and I’m delighted that the event was such a success.
“It was an immensely proud day for the resort and everyone was pleased to raise these funds for charity. It was a showcase of our championship golf capabilities and we’ve already decided to hold the event again in 2014.”
The Sportsman’s Golf Classic event was a new event for 2013 and open to all.
Following the day on the golf course, there was a full evening programme which included a presentation from the golf day with captain, Michael Vaughan and David Lloyd, as well as a charity auction which included a range of prizes on offer, donated by Srixon Sports Europe, Galvin Green, The Mere and other sources.
