SOPHIE Booth has been named Knutsford student of the year by the town’s Rotarians.
The 18-year-old, who attended Knutsford Academy, received the Rotary Club of Knutsford’s Walter Johnson Memorial Award at a ceremony at Leicester Warren Hall.
While studying at the school Sophie undertook work experience as a teaching assistant and helping to teach boys with behavioural difficulties.
Alongside this she has raised more than £1,500 for the Teenage Cancer Trust, Medcare and the Make A Wish Foundation. This involved doing a charity skydive despite her fear of heights.
Mrs Baker, head of student services in the sixth form, told the judges that Sophie had helped to create a ‘genuine community spirit in the sixth form’.
Along with these commitments Sophie was a member of Knutsford Academy’s student parliament and a representative for students on the board of governors.
Mrs Baker said: “Sophie has shown an impressive commitment to Knutsford Academy’s community and the wider Cheshire community beyond.
“Her attitude and efforts are admired throughout the school, and we are proud to put her forward as a worthwhile recipient of the Walter Johnson award.”
Sophie was awarded a book token worth £150.
