Maternity unit gains highest accolade
6:40pm Friday 11th October 2013 in News
THE maternity unit at Macclesfield Hospital has been awarded the top status by inspectors.
In September the maternity unit at East Cheshire NHS Trust undertook a voluntary assessment by the NHS Litigation Authority to reach level 3, the highest standard attainable.
The authority manages negligence and other claims against the NHS in England, helping to resolve disputes fairly, share learning about risks and standards in the NHS and improve safety for patients and staff and assess maternity units based on 50 standards.
The trust passed all 50 standards, one of a few NHS organisations nationwide to achieve this score.
Kath Senior, director of nursing, performance and quality said: “ We are delighted our maternity services have been recognised in this way.
“The team has been able to demonstrate to external assessors that the maternity care standards we are providing are of a very high standard. “I would like to commend Lynda Moorcroft, head of midwifery and women’s services, who led the team through this rigorous review process.
“Achievement of level 2 in maternity services is widely accepted as the benchmark standard – the service has now demonstrated a superior level of patient safety, engagement and care.”
