Council defends broadband partnership after criticism
CHESHIRE East Council have hit back at an allegation that the new super-fast broadband initiative they are involved with is a ‘waste of money’.
Connecting Cheshire is a partnership between four Cheshire councils – Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, Halton Borough Council and Warrington Borough Council.
Last week, the Guardian reported that Connecting Cheshire’s Superfast Broadband service had been criticised by the owner of a Knutsford business, David Thursby of ADM Computing Ltd.
He believes the £1.5 million investment in the service would be better used elsewhere.
Clrr David Brown, Deputy Leader of Cheshire East Council and cabinet member for strategic communities, said: “Our officers have contacted Mr Thursby, explaining the business support programme and objectives and he has been offered the opportunity to join the programme as a specialist to help deliver support and expertise to other businesses.
“It is important to bear in mind that the Connecting Cheshire Superfast Business service will work with – and not in competition with – local specialists and is actively looking at developing a network of local specialists to deliver funded support to help drive growth in the local economy and retain expertise.”
