Church reader has good news after surgery
A KNUTSFORD ordinand who struggled to take to the pulpit each month due to a crippling condition is finally free of the debilitating pain – and preaching the good news of her treatment.
Michelle Goodrich, who is preparing to become an Anglican priest, struggled with gynaecological condition endometriosis for 16 years.
The condition meant she was unable to have children, and in later years often left her battling to walk or even stand up because of severe pain.
Michelle is manager of Golfino sportswear in Knutsford as well as a licensed reader at St Wilfrid’s Church in Mobberley, where she is preparing for ordination.
The 43-year-old, who is married to Knutsford Town Councillor Julian Goodrich, said: “At church I would be walking up to the pulpit in agony – I would go up there to preach positive news of joy, hope and love, when all the time I would be stood there in complete agony.
“I was also constantly exhausted because I wasn’t sleeping properly; I’d even started to suffer nasty nosebleeds each month and had been diagnosed with anaemia. I knew I couldn’t carry on as I was.”
After years of various treatments and surgical procedures, Michelle decided that a hysterectomy was the best treatment.
She was treated at Spire Regency Hospital in Macclesfield and underwent her procedure in July.
The Heron Close resident added: “The morning after I was texting a photo of myself smiling with my thumbs up to my family and friends. Everyone was shocked at how well I was doing. Obviously, I’m a Christian, so I was thanking God I felt so good.”
Michelle hopes to inspire others who suffer as she did to look into having the treatment and ‘not just put up with it’.
She added: “I know I made the right decision – emotionally and physically I feel like I am getting on with my life again now.
“But the important thing is for people to have the time and space to have those tough conversations and work out what the best option is.”
