Resurfacing will mean night-time closures on the A556
7:40am Monday 7th October 2013 in News
A TWO-NIGHT Highways Agency project to resurface a section of the northbound A556 between the M6 and M56 motorways in Cheshire will take place next week.
The £23,000 scheme – which will take place on Tuesday, October 8 and Wednesday, October 9 – involves two overnight closures of the northbound carriageway between its junctions with the M6 at Knutsford and the A50 Warrington Road at Mere.
The work includes resurfacing on the approach to the traffic lights and renewing road markings.
The full carriageway closure will also be used as an opportunity to carry out general maintenance and cleaning such as gulley clearance.
Both closures will take place between 10pm and 5am.
A diversion will be in operation from the roundabout with the M6, with drivers sent south along the A556 Chester Road to join the eastbound A5033 towards Knutsford where they can join the northbound A50 back to the northbound A556 at Mere crossroads.
Highways Agency project sponsor Jakub Malaj said: “This is routine maintenance we are doing overnight to minimise any inconvenience to drivers along this key link between the M6 and M56. A good, clearly-signed diversion will be in place.”
