Firefighters thank the public after charity car wash raises £530
FIREFIGHTERS, fire cadets and helpers are thanking the people of Knutsford for their generosity following their recent charity car wash.
On September 14, drivers turned out in force to support The Fire Fighters Charity by bringing their cars along to Knutsford Community Fire Station for a charitable wash down.
Firefighters, fire cadets and teams of helpers gave up their Saturday to pick up sponges, fill their buckets and get scrubbing to help raise money for the cause.
Mark Cashin, Chair of the Fire Fighters Charity and Deputy Chief Fire Officer, said: “It is a testament to the support we have from the public.
“Events such as this show how generous people can be as a magnificent total of over £530 was raised on the day from local residents.
“We are yet again delighted that Barclays bank will match fund the total raised.”
Every year, thousands of firefighters are injured whilst protecting the public. Every 30 seconds in the UK, firefighters are called to an incident, putting their lives on the line and often sustaining physical injuries whilst carrying out their duties.
The Fire Fighters Charity is there for firefighters during their times of need, and assists over 13,500 individuals every year by providing pioneering treatment and support services.
Mark added: “It costs over £9million every year to keep The Fire Fighters Charity running and with no government funding, it is completely reliant on donations from the general public and fire community.”
