Roadworks will tackle M6 wear and tear
8:00am Thursday 19th September 2013 in News
A £270,000 Highways Agency project to tackle wear and tear along the M6 near Knutsford gets under way next month.
The project, between junction 19 of the motorway at Knutsford and junction 22 at Newton-le-Willows, will be delivered in four phases and will take 20 nights between October 1 and January 18.
The Highways Agency said the work will be done overnight in four phases along short stretches of the northbound or southbound carriageways to minimise inconvenience to motorists.
No work will be done over Christmas and New Year as the agency lifts or suspends roadworks to help people on holiday journeys.
The repairs include tackling potholes, sealing cracks in the surface and renewing road markings and road studs. The work will be done between 10pm and 5am each night or until 7am at the weekend. A 50mph speed limit will be in place past the roadworks.
Jakub Malaj, Highways Agency project sponsor, said: “This is routine maintenance to tackle wear and tear along one of the busiest stretches of the motorway network in the north west, and the work will ensure motorway users can continue to enjoy safe, smooth and reliable journeys.
"While most drivers will be able to drive past the roadworks the link roads may be closed from time to time but with good diversions in place.”
