Exhibition celebrates beauty of silk
6:00pm Thursday 29th August 2013 in News
GET an insight into the fascinating history of silk at Knutsford Heritage Centre’s new exhibition, Silk From The Ancient Kingdoms.
The exhibition, which runs from Tuesday, September 3 to Sunday, September 29, celebrates the beauty and complexity of silk which has been produced in the East for thousands of years.
It features items from the collection of Textile Traders’ Diane and Jim Gaffney, who have travelled, collected and researched textiles throughout Asia for more than 30 years.
“Diane and Jim are real experts in their field,” said Val Bryant from Knutsford Heritage Centre.
“And with us being just a few miles from the Macclesfield Silk Road – as well as having our own Silk Mill Street, once home to a Silk Mill – we are delighted that they are bringing their collection to us.
“The exhibition will include items from Uzbekistan, Thailand, Cambodia and Java, and as a special treat Jim is giving an illustrated lunchtime talk at the centre on Saturday, September 28.
“Anyone with an interest in silk and its history will find this talk fascinating.”
Silk From The Ancient Kingdoms runs at the centre from 11am to 4pm (closed Mondays) and 2pm to 5pm on Sundays.
Tickets for the illustrated talk on Saturday, September 28, starting at noon, cost £4.50, including a light lunch.
To book please contact the centre on 01565 650506 or email email@example.com.
