Ex-teacher charged with sex offences
A 70-YEAR-OLD French teacher has been charged by police investigating alleged sexual abuse at a school near Knutsford.
Keith Cavendish-Coulson, from Crookham Hill, Crookham Common, Thatcham in Berkshire, has been charged with 19 counts of indecent assault against boys under 14, which relate to four victims between 1973 and 1975.
Mr Cavendish-Coulson was a teacher at Terra Nova School, on Chelford Road, close to Jodrell Bank in the 1970s.
Police told the Guardian that the victims were aged between nine and 12 at the time of the alleged attacks.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Cheshire Police take all allegations of sexual abuse seriously and would encourage anyone who has been a victim to contact police.
“Specialist trained officers are available to provide support throughout the investigation.”
Andrew Lewin, head teacher of Terra Nova School, and Martin Hallam, chairman of governors at the school, issued a joint statement on Thursday following the news that charges had been put to a former teacher who was employed at the school nearly 40 years ago.
“We can confirm that Keith Cavendish-Coulson was employed at this school to teach French 40 years ago, during the 1970s, from 1972 to 1975.
“We first became aware of these allegations a few months ago when we were contacted by Cheshire Police and we have co-operated fully with their investigations.
“The allegations do not relate to any current or recent teaching at the school.”
Mr Cavendish-Coulson is due to appear at South Cheshire Magistrates’ Court in Crewe on September 10.
