Scenic trip for 25th rail anniversary
5:30pm Thursday 22nd August 2013 in News
THE Mid Cheshire Rail Users Association is celebrating 25 years of organised rail tours with a scenic trip to Carlisle and back.
MCRUA is looking for photographs from the first rail tour on April 9, 1988, which also travelled to Carlisle on the Settle route.
David Miller, organiser of MCRUA Railtours said: “It is 25 years since we started running rail tours from local stations on the Mid-Cheshire Line, and we are putting together a memories board of that first rail tour.
“If there are readers who went on the tour, we would like to hear from them.
“It must have been a success, as we had to add two coaches to the Settle and Carlisle Railway in 1989.”
John Hulme, vice chairman of MCRUA, added: “It’s fantastic that local people can enjoy a full day’s scenic rail tour at reasonable prices.
“The tour runs through the most attractive scenery in the Yorkshire Dales and Cumbrian Fells and is world-famous for its Victorian architecture, stone viaducts and remote wayside stations.”
If you have any photos or memories of the 1988 rail tour, or would like details of the Settle and Carlisle Express running on September 11, visit mcrua.org.uk, or contact David Miller on 01606 888093.
