Ben carves out a new career for himself
A CRANAGE graduate has used his handy skills to carve out a new career in sculpting – and the budding entrepreneur’s business is going from strength to strength.
Ben Sharratt, 23, has launched his new business, AuCheshire, which specialises in ‘rough cut’ furniture.
Working from his home on Oak Tree Lane, he produces sculptures for home and garden, and has used his prior experience as a tree surgeon and his 3D design degree to create unusual and bespoke designs.
The former Plymouth University student said: “I used my knowledge of wood and my background in metal work to start working them together.
“Nobody else was really doing that sort of thing so the potential was there.”
Ben started off by doing sculptures for members of his family and friends, but when word got around about his talent the commissions starting flowing in.
Although AuCheshire started out creating one-off commissions, the company have branched out by designed new product range, which can then be customised to the customer’s taste.
Now Ben is looking to the future and is keen to realise his aspirations soon.
He said: “My dream would be to establish myself in the north west and become a well-known sculptor.”
