A KNUTSFORD pupil has made it to the final three of Amnesty International’s UK-wide Young Human Rights Reporter of the Year competition.

Ellie Williams, 15, who featured in the Knutsford Guardian last week, will head to Amnesty International’s London HQ for the awards ceremony on April 30, where the winner will be announced.

The Knutsford Academy School pupil impressed the judges with her article about rape in India.

Joseph Harker, the Guardian assistant comment editor, was one of the judges, and was impressed with her article.

He said: “Ellie’s article was excellent. It challenged the general stereotypes and broke the typical media representations of the issue.”

Ellie said: “I feel so privileged to be able to speak up as a young woman against patriarchy and violence against women. I thank Amnesty for giving me the opportunity.”
