St Cross debut for Tatton Singers
6:30pm Wednesday 13th March 2013 in News
A MAJOR challenge will be on the cards for Tatton Singers this weekend as the group begins its 2013 season.
Saturday will be an important day for the group as its holds its first concert at St Cross Church.
St John’s has been the choir’s regular base for many years, but is temporarily unavailable due to major internal work.
The choir is looking forward to singing in a different space and acoustic, and the concert will offer a fascinating programme.
The group, which is always keen to take on new challenges, is singing two 20th century works for choir and organ – Hungarian composer Zoltan Kodaly’s stirring Missa Brevis and French composer Francis Poulenc’s joyous and playful setting of the Gloria.
The choir is joined by organist Stephen Carleston and soprano Suzanne Fischer.
Suzanne – a rising star of the German operatic world – will be remembered by some from her days at Knutsford High School as Suzanne McGrath.
Future events from the Tatton Singers include a Singing Day on May 11, which will explore a Dvorak Mass, a lighter-toned summer concert with piano duet in June and a performance of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio in December.
Tickets for this Saturdays’ concert are £10, £9 for concessions and £2.50 for £2.50, and are available from choir members, on the door or by calling 01565 650641.
