THE current holder of the Knutsford Community Hero title is urging townspeople to submit their entries for this year’s competition.
Kane Gunter, from Longridge, was named as the first community hero winner in last year’s competition for his services to raising money for charity.
Now the 47-year-old born and bred Knutsfordian has urged residents to send in their nominations.
The Guardian has teamed up again with Equilibrium Asset Management to find the Knutsford Community Hero for 2013, and we need your help.
Our hero could be any age; all we want to know is what they do to make Knutsford a better place to live.
They might be a charity fundraiser or help out with children’s activities.
Kane said last year’s title was a big surprise, and it was nice to be recognised by those he had worked with.
“It was a bit of a surprise but it’s a really good thing,” he added.
“There are a lot of people who I work with who put their time into helping people and the community as a whole.
“It’s like most things in life – if you think someone deserves an award then say so.
“Even if they don’t get the award they will get a mention in the paper.”
Colin Lawson, the managing partner of Equilibrium, said: “Kane epitomises a true community hero and was a worthy winner of last year’s award.
“His tireless work has made a tangible difference in bringing the local community together and his charity fundraising activities benefit the young and old alike.
“I know Kane was humbled to even be nominated, but I believe it is important to let people know about the selfless activities people in Knutsford do for their friends and neighbours.
“That’s why I am looking forward to reading about any activity, big or small, which helps make the town a great place to live.
“As well as the recognition that comes from being nominated, Equilibrium is also offering a prize of £500 to our new Community Hero and a further £500 to a charity of their choice.
“We’re also going to give a prize to the person who makes the winning nomination, so it’s well worth letting us know who you think deserves to win this year.”
The competition closes on March 13.
