EAST Cheshire NHS Trust has confirmed that its decision whether it will reopen Knutsford's Tatton Ward will not have to be discussed by the borough council until 2014.

The consultation into Tatton Ward finished in February and campaigners were expected to hear the matter discussed at the next Cheshire East Council health scrutiny meeting taking place on Thursday, March 7.

But the trust told the Guardian the council only has to discuss it a YEAR after the decision has been made by the trust board.

A spokesperson for East Cheshire NHS Trust said: "The Trust will make recommendations following the Tatton Ward Consultation at its Public Trust Board on March 28.

"The Trust has been advised that the Scrutiny committee do not expect a report on the conclusion of the Tatton Ward consultation until approximately 12 months post decision making and implementation.

"A notification of the decision of the Trust Board will be sent to the committee for information after March 28."

Re: “..the trust told the Guardian the council only has to discuss it a YEAR after the decision has been made by the trust board.”

It is now two and a half years, since East Cheshire NHS Trust, summarily decided to close the Tatton Ward, stating that it would reopen ‘in a few weeks’ .

The public has since, suffered more half truths, part truths, loss of essential services, denigration, greatly added cost, greatly extended travel, loss of ability to oversee that the care of the old is worthy of the name ‘care’ - and has listened to this so-called ‘trust’, weaseling its way out of its responsibilities to a point of, what I believe is, deliberate discrimination against the elderly of this area.

It claims to be a 'Trust' and yet it seems to think that it can act in a completely unaccountable way, piling up the old into distant overloaded Intermediate (misnamed) Care Wards, or disposing of them into an assortment of commercial social care facilities, depriving family carers of the respite beds which they might otherwise have expected to use, in those facilities.

The prime tenet of any service which bears the name 'trust' in its title, is that it should be trustworthy; because of this secretive ‘Trust’s public facing elements, it is difficult to see how this can be the case in respect of East Cheshire NHS Trust.

It has Board meetings which do not admit of any public participation within its Agenda; it runs ‘public participation’ consultations without adequately informing the public; it shuts essential services with absolutely no consultation.. and keeps them shut.. and then it expects that the public will rush to take part in its proposed ‘Foundation Trust’. Hardly likely, is it?

Perhaps the Trust 'spokesperson' would like to explain to its employers (the public) just how it merits the term 'trust'?
