A KNUTSFORD teenager has enjoyed a royal date.

Jack Kimber, of Northfields, was among hundreds of young achievers from across the UK invited to St James’ Palace.

Jack, 17, attended North Cestrian Grammar School in Altrincham, where he achieved their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

He attended the ceremony at the palace to receive his certificate from the award scheme’s patron and founder, The Earl of Wessex.

He completed his gold Duke of Edinburgh programme over 20 months, finishing in 2012, making him one of the youngest recipients at the school.

The activities included deer stalking, achieving a Black Belt in Taekwondo, learning the drums, providing voluntary support for a junior church at St John’s, Knutsford and expeditions to Hadrian’s Wall, the Lake District and the Brecon Beacons.

Jack said: “While it was often very hard work and tiring, it has taught me a huge amount in many areas of my life which I think will have set me up really well for the future.

“I look back with great pride that I stuck with it, even when it was really tough.”
