UPDATE: A556 reopens after six car pile up

THE A556 has reopened in both directions at Bucklow Hill after a six vehicle accident.

Highways Agency officials had closed the road close to The Swan after the accident which happened shortly after 7.30am.

Six vehicles were involved in the accident and queues formed as far back as junction six of the M56 going south and junction 19 of the M6 heading north.

No serious injuries were reported.

The road reopened shortly before 10am.
