HOLMES Chapel fossil hunter Will Haynes has won an offer from Churchill College, Cambridge to read natural sciences.

The King’s School Macclesfield Sixth Form student needs two A*s and two A grades in this summer’s A Level examinations in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology so he can attend the college.

Will, 17, from Cedar Close, told the Guardian he is fascinated by the evolution of life and wants to use his degree to become a palaeontologist, studying the remains of flora, fauna from as far back as the dinosaurs from around the world.

“I find the evolution of life deeply fascinating and am just interested in learning as much as possible,” he said.

A bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award winner, Will helped King’s to reach the national finals of the schools’ Warhammer League.

Ruth Roberts, principal of the King’s Sixth Form, said: “Will is an accomplished student with a deep fascination for his subject which clearly impressed Cambridge’s admissions tutors.

“We are sure he will make a contribution to university life just as he has to school life.”
