KNUTSFORD’S Oxfam bookshop took delivery of hundreds of bras this week in the hope they raise money for a good cause.

They were donated to the charity’s Big Bra Hunt by Soroptimist International of Warrington, a women’s service club.

Club president, Margaret Carr, of Mereheath Park, Knutsford, said the unwanted bras had been collected by members over the past two years.

“We built a bra mountain in Warrington with the first year’s collection,” Margaret said.

“The publicity we gained meant women kept seeking us out to make sure their bras went to a good home.

“Some of those donated still have their tags on and have obviously never been worn. Many are in excellent condition.”

Heather Tudge, a volunteer at the Knutsford shop, said she was delighted to receive the bras.

“Every single one will be put to good use to help overcome poverty and suffering,” she said.

Oxfam sorts the bras, selling some in its UK shops and sending the rest to its Wastesaver recycling plant.

These are sorted and either sent abroad for resale or the parts separated and recycled.

Margaret said the club would welcome more members from Knutsford.
