Margaret is named as John’s police deputy

THE former chairman of the disbanded Cheshire Police Authority, Margaret Ollerenshaw, has been appointed as deputy in command to the county’s new Police and Crime Commissioner.

The Police and Crime Panel for Cheshire confirmed PCC John Dwyer’s selection of Ms Ollerenshaw for the £22,500 per year post this week.

Mr Dwyer said: “It quickly became clear to me that in order to perform my duties effectively I would need a second-in-command.

“Margaret Ollerenshaw was the obvious choice as she has the breadth and depth of experience and the respect and support of other leaders in Cheshire.”

He added that Ms Ollerenshaw’s 12-month appointment would enable him to ‘fully understand the scope’ of his ‘new and challenging role’ as Cheshire’s head of the police.

Mr Dwyer said Ms Ollerenshaw ‘had a proven track record, has good experience of business management in the private sector and has made a valuable contribution in the voluntary sector’.

He added: “Her skills, knowledge and experience will be invaluable in the transition from the police authority model to the new way of working, which I am already introducing.”
