Janice wants to create wonderful wedding days after quitting hockey umpire role

Janice Tasho has quit as a hockey umpire to start up her wedding business n125132
A KNUTSFORD mum has given up her dreams of the Olympics to start a new business in the town.
Janice Tasho, from Mereheath Park, has started her own company to combine her passion for organising events with her love for the romance of weddings – building on 15 years of events management experience in her role as secretary for Knutsford Hockey Club.
Janice was also an international hockey umpire, but decided to focus her attention on a new career, and gave up her dreams of the Olympics to give brides their dream day.
She started umpiring in the Isle of Man before attending university and then moving to Knutsford, where she started umpiring for the men’s section of Knutsford Hockey Club.
Within three years of umpiring at the top flight of English hockey she had gained international status, and travelled around Europe, including Poland, Spain, Germany, Italy, acting as the English national umpire and a neutral.
Janice told the Guardian it had been a tough decision to quit her umpiring career, but was pleased to be helping happy couples under her company name Wonderful Weddings by JT.
“I feel as if I’ve given up my dreams of Olympic umpiring to give brides and bridegrooms their dream days instead,” she said.
“I’m very passionate working for the bride and bridegroom to give them the best day possible at the best price possible, because of having given up my own dreams.
“I’d always wanted to own my own company and always loved organising events.
“I thought there was a gap in the market to act in a different way and just be on the bride and bridegroom side – so working with the suppliers to get the best deals, rather than working on a commission basis.”
