Safety first is the priority for area’s new inspector

A NEW inspector is in charge of policing in Holmes Chapel, Cranage and Goostrey.

Inspector Stuart York has taken the helm at Congleton neighbourhood policing unit.

The 37-year-old is taking over from Inspector Mark Gammage, who is now heading Cheshire Police’s operations support unit, which deals with serious collision investigations.

Stuart has been with Cheshire Police for 14 years, and built his career with CID, the criminal investigation department.

More recently he worked at the operations support unit, and for the past six months worked as central services inspector responsible for Cheshire Police’s control room and contingency planning for emergencies.

Stuart said: “I’ve worked in east Cheshire since I started with the police, so I know the area well and the challenges that come into the role.

“It’s about making sure this is a safe place and doing what I can to give officers and PCSOs the support they need to make sure that’s the case.”

Stuart, who lives in Wistaston, told the Guardian his priorities will be cracking down on anti-social behaviour and preventing deaths on the roads.

As reported in the Guardian, it’s all change for police in the area, as Catherine Mitchell has also taken over from Steve Griffiths as Knutsford inspector.
